Hotel Nahua

The pool is beautiful, and the location was perfect for getting around Tamarindo. The room had some of the basics an Airbnb should have, but the supplies were very limited. For our four-day stay, there was just one towel for washing dishes, few plates and utensils, no microwave, no paper towels, and no salt or pepper. There were no cleaning products either, and a broom would have been very welcome by the fourth day. When we asked for more dish towels, nobody responded. Asking the front desk for anything made us feel like a nuisance, so eventually we stopped asking for things we needed. They also charged an arm and a leg to do a small amount of laundry.

The noise made it very hard to rest. At night, music from downtown came through, along with people walking on the floor above, and the poor sound insulation did little to block it. Geckos also got into the room through gaps in the walls, and the pool was consistently dirty and badly maintained. When we arrived at the Deluxe Double Room, it was full of flies. The concrete slab outside was badly cracked, as were the interior walls, and the old plastic wall behind the bed looked worn and dirty. The bathroom design was poor too: the shower drain was clogged, water spilled everywhere because the shower wasn’t properly enclosed, and the shower head was too close to the furniture. Check-in was practically nonexistent, with no proper reception, welcoming arrival, or meaningful ID check. That left us with real concerns about security. Casa Nahua felt neglected and fell far short of expectations in upkeep, cleanliness, comfort, and guest security. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and they promptly helped with questions and extra towels or beach towels. They kept the rooms clean every day too. Great hotel in a great location, highly recommend!

We had a great time at this small, family-run place. The owner and staff were really friendly, and the rooms were clean with cool air conditioning. A family of Howler monkeys lived in the trees above us and were fun to watch without causing any trouble. We also saw iguanas running around. It’s at the end of the strip, which worked well for us. You can still hear live music from the pool at night, and the water stayed pleasantly cool even on hot days. The beach is close too, just a short walk down a back lane to the middle of the beach area.
