Tao Destinations

The surf coaching really took our surfing up a level, thanks to Tao's encouragement. We just finished a week at Tao Destinations in Playa Avellanas, and it was our best surf week yet. Tao, his wife Ruby, and Andrew were wonderful hosts, cooks, coaches, and good people. Tao built a terrific home with all the amenities we could want. The food was chef quality and the rooms were very clean. The air conditioning gets seriously cold, the showers have strong pressure, and the pool is a relaxing place to unwind. This is where I'd go for a surf week in Costa Rica.

Tao knows his surfing and has a good range of boards for hire. He also makes authentic, chef grade Mexican food, and there's a great tequila selection for anyone who enjoys it. The place itself is a quiet break from the busy beaches, handcrafted by Tao, with a lovely garden, deep salt water pool, clean rooms, and powerful air conditioning. You can hear Howler monkeys too. It feels warm and inviting, with a real family atmosphere, and Tao went out of his way to look after us. He even drove me, my husband, and brother in law to our next stop about 2km away. I highly recommend Tao’s Destinations and hope to visit again. Thanks to Tao and his family for making our trip so lovely.

What stuck with me most was how well we ate. There was fresh fruit, salads, and a nice range of dinner mains. The pan seared snapper, shrimp pasta with saffron sauce, and Tacos de Papa were favorites. We surfed every day, cooled off in the pool, and watched the sunsets each evening. The room was clean and comfortable, the AC was strong, and the TV was huge. I took so many naps I lost count. Tao Destinations is clean, safe, and private, with great food and personal service. It's a no frills surf camp away from Tamarindo's tourist crowds, but there are several surf breaks within walking distance. Taoby is a legit surfer and a true Renaissance Man, and he'll make sure you have a good time whatever your level. Video analysis helped me improve my longboard technique. Just got back from a week here and I'm definitely coming back next season. Taoby, thanks for a great week.

A quiet little oasis with a beautiful pool and outdoor space, away from the busy atmosphere. Tao, the owner, is really nice and helpful and makes you feel like family. One of Guanacaste's best beaches, with amazing waves, is a short walk away. I'll definitely return and highly recommend Tao!
