Zulu Surf Hotel

We had the hotel's largest room, facing Playa Negro and the main street, and it was great. The location was amazing. My one suggestion is to improve the blackout curtains. Sun came through the little gaps in the current ones, and the AC couldn't cool the room enough. Tamarindo gets hotter than hell.

WOW, just beautiful. The location is amazing, the staff are friendly and attentive, and I slept incredibly well. I liked hanging out in the common areas too. The beach is only a three-minute walk away, with restaurants everywhere and cute, unique shops. It's got a vibe everyone should experience. I'll stay here again!

Zulu Surf Hotel worked out well for our first Costa Rica trip, mainly because of its location in Tamarindo. Restaurants, shops, grocery stores, and the beach were all within walking distance. We arrived from Liberia Airport by private shuttle, which took about 2 hours, and stayed for four nights in July 2025. The staff were nice, helpful, and quick to respond on WhatsApp. Our room was on the second floor, and since there is no elevator, they carried our one 50 pounds suitcase and two carry-ons up the stairs. We asked for extra towels almost every night and they brought them to our room. Having a kitchen in the room was useful for heating food. It was a good experience, and I'd recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Costa Rica.

The location was the big draw here, and my first-floor room was very spacious. My only concern was that the TV was in the bedroom but not the living room. I wasn't there to watch much TV, though, so maybe that was fine. The front office was fantastic and arranged for me to get into my room after hours when I arrived late, then take care of everything first thing in the morning. The cleaning staff were nonstop bundles of energy. I tried to spend as little time as possible here, but these accommodations made my trip a big win.
