The Corner House

The staff were fantastic. When we had a problem with the air conditioner, they moved us right away and treated us to a delicious dinner. The breakfast was also fantastic and just what we needed for a busy day. The rooms are clean and well maintained. Such a wonderful place, highly recommend!

Our room at Hotel Serendipity was lovely and quiet, close to the beach and to some nice bars and local family ‘sodas’ serving delicious fresh Caribbean food. Cooper, Sophia, Crystal, and Jayleen were all friendly and so helpful, arranging everything we needed, including transfers to and from the hotel and a really enjoyable early boat tour with Jonny. We had a fabulous stay, highly recommend it, and would love to return. Thank you, Cooper and team.

Jonnie knew so much about the wildlife, and our boat trip was well worth doing, even in the rain. We saw plenty, including a monkey falling from a tree into the river. The monkey was okay. The food was excellent, with a great breakfast, and I’d recommend an evening meal with a glass of wine. The rooms were spotless, and the staff were so helpful, even lending us wellies for the trails and doing our laundry when we came back wet. It’s a great hotel close to town, the beach, and wildlife trails.

The hotel is in a shantytown neighborhood, but we felt completely safe, and it was eye-opening to see everyday life in a small town in CR. We went in early March and had mostly good weather, with rain once overnight and a couple of brief spells in the morning. We loved the full-board stay and took three hotel tours: the morning canal, afternoon Tortuguero hill, and night tours. Johnny led all of them. He knows a lot, is eager to answer questions, and is enthusiastic about the wildlife and fauna he’s studying as he works toward fuller certification as a conservationist. The food was delicious, nutritious, and nicely presented. Jayleen is a talented chef, and the portions were so generous we skipped lunch. You choose from two options for each meal and set your own meal time, and dinner included beer and wine. The staff were personable and wonderful, especially Saraj. Our room was super clean, with good water pressure and temperature, working AC, and clean water in the fridge. Do the Jaguar Trail beside the hotel, and ask reception for help with the required day passes. The Sea Turtle conservatory is worth a visit too. Karol or Cooper at reception arranged a pickup at the port, which helped because the winding alleys were confusing at first. It’s easy to find your way once you stick to the oaved sidewalks. We’d definitely stay here again.
