Hotel Pacuare Turrialba

The host was nice and communication was great, and the accommodation was clean, quiet, and affordable. I did find it cold to sleep in, though. The altitude brings lower temperatures, and I was kind of freezing. A warmer blanket would have helped.

I stayed two nights in two different private rooms and used the shared kitchen, pool, and upstairs deck, which has views of the surrounding area. This is a hostel rather than a five-star hotel, but it exceeded my expectations in every way except the location, which gets four stars because of road noise. Earplugs help. Just north of Turrialba, it’s an ideal spot if you have a car, with safe parking. Breakfast is AMAZING and a great start to exploring nearby or WHITEWATER RAFTING. Hotel Pacuare also offers an incredible-value package with a bed, breakfast, and rafting. The equipment and river guide were both top notch. The proprietor, Juan Carlos, was EXCELLENT to communicate with via WhatsApp. If you want somewhere safe, welcoming, and well appointed near Turrialba, this is it. Thank you Juan Carlos (y todo su familia) for making our rafting trip so wonderful. ¡Pura vida!

The balconies, both private and shared, look out over a beautiful view. Our room was clean and very nice, with a comfortable bed, and the staff were kind. It seems to be a family-run place. Breakfast is homemade and included, and you can get a homemade dinner for just 3000 colones. At 12000 colones, about $20 a night for a private room, it was extremely affordable. We had a great stay and would highly recommend it.

The owners are really kind and helpful, and can arrange rafting on the extraordinarily beautiful Rio Pacauare. It’s well worth doing. The place itself is simple and good for a stay, with an excellent breakfast and nice views of the hills and Santa Rosa church. The downside is that it’s a bit far from Turrialba, and the rooms can be noisy, with lots of street sounds, including dogs.
