The location has a really nice feel, the cabin is cute, and the facilities are good. A cold shower may catch some people off guard, but in the warm weather I actually found it refreshing. The restaurant is good too, and the kitchen is well equipped. Sadly, the staff’s attitude spoiled a lot of that atmosphere. The women behind the bar rolled their eyes when we came to order, which felt unfriendly. Once, the cleaner shouted at us when we entered the kitchen while she was cleaning, and she generally moved around in a pretty aggressive way. It’s a shame, because the place itself is really nice.

We brought a group of 24 college students to Flutterby, and it was just right for us. The place is rustic and funky, and it surpassed what we expected. The food was surprisingly good, and the full-service bar made really good drinks. The staff had a great vibe and looked after our needy gringos well. We felt at home, and being able to walk to the beach was another big plus.

The beach is so close that we walked there every day for sunset, and that alone made the stay worthwhile. Our private cabin was affordable and had everything we needed, though it was clearly a basic place. During heavy rain, water came through the roof in several spots. We’d hoped for a friendly, social atmosphere and some local recommendations, but it was very quiet and the staff didn’t seem interested in chatting. Maybe that was because we stayed midweek just before the dry season began.

Fernando’s a literal king. We arrived from the Caribbean after a terrible experience, and he turned things around with an easy check-in, comfortable rooms, and a full explanation of the place. It’s such a cute spot in an amazing location!

The location is what made this place for me. It’s just two minutes from the beach, and apparently you can get in for free pretty easily if you ask. The guy running the place was helpful, and the treehouse setup was cool. There are yoga mats, kettlebells, and dumbbells downstairs for a small workout. It’s also about a 10-minute walk from the bus stop, which is handy since Uvita doesn’t really have a center. The Trapoca bus station is a 25-30 minute walk, but you can take the local bus there.
