Hotel Tucan

Town and public transport are only a short, flat walk away, and there are nearby restaurants and cafes for other meals since the hotel serves breakfast only. The WiFi is fast. Playa Hermosa is a ten-minute taxi ride, but from experience, there's little or no phone or WiFi signal there to book a ride back. For the falls, the first entrance is best, as the fee also covers the butterfly house. The welcome from the owner was warm and genuine. He took time to explain the hotel and things to do in Uvita, and Pierre, or “Mr Fixit,” was so helpful with advice and onward transport arrangements. Nothing seemed too much trouble, and he clearly cares about giving great service. Tucan has an individual style and interesting decor. The lounge areas are relaxing, and our room 5 was modestly furnished but comfortable, with AC and a good-sized bathroom with a walk-in shower. The room was kept clean. My wife and I are unlikely to return to Costa Rica, but we'd happily recommend Tucan and are glad it made our Uvita stay memorable.

I spent a full week in a private room and was really happy with that choice. The people were very nice, the facilities were cool, and the pool was perfect. Such an amazing stay!

The only thing that bothered me was the cleaner being a bit rude and direct about putting my dishes away just after I'd finished cooking. I understand the shared kitchen needs to stay clean, but it was 3pm and nobody else was waiting to use it. I would have liked to eat first. Otherwise, I can't recommend this hostel/hotel enough for the price. Pierre explained the hotel and local activities clearly when I arrived, and I never hesitated to ask for help. He answered everything with a smile. The free breakfast was fantastic and left me satisfied and energized for the day. The dorm AC worked perfectly, so I slept comfortably for all 3 nights. I also loved the capsule-style beds, which gave extra privacy and felt especially good for this part of the world by hostel standards. Everything was clean, and the refreshing pool was a nice feature in the intense ocean-side humidity.

Pierre was such a warm, welcoming owner and gave us great tips for exploring the area. You can feel how much he cares about what he has created and about connecting with his guests. Our boys loved the pool, and the hammocks and pool table were popular too. We stayed five nights at Tucan Hotel as a family with two boys, and wish we could have stayed much longer. The whole place is beautifully designed, with so much love and attention to detail. We had a cozy cabin with a small veranda and a double room. Both were spotless and beautifully painted, with bed linen that matched the decor. It felt like a little paradise where guests of every age are welcome. We hope to return to Costa Rica, and when we do, we'll come straight back to Tucan Hotel. ♥️ Nadine&family
