The rooms are comfortable, though small, and the view is spectacular. The hotel sits close to the sea, right in the heart of the city. Myths and legends are tied to its history, and the place has periodically been hit by severe natural disasters. One story says someone cursed it long ago because of “the Russian woman,” a beautiful lady who ran a famous brothel on this site.

The place has been left as a sort of relic, kept going by the story of the person who founded the house called “La Rusa.” Beyond renting rooms, the service is a joke, and there’s no bar service. A small hotel with this much history deserves more attention.

Staying at LaRusa in Baracoa made for a fantastic vacation. We had the room where Che stayed, as the photos in the bedroom show. At night and in the morning, the sound of the sea lulls you to sleep. A magical place full of legends!
