Memories Caribe Beach Resort - Adults Only +16

The shows and entertainment were plentiful, and our group generally loved the hotel and would recommend it. We spent a week there over Christmas. The beach was crystal clear and calm, comfortable for swimming, and the food was amazing. Staff were very, very friendly. The room was a little humid, maybe that's common at beach resorts, and there were mosquitoes.

The beach is lovely, but this was without question the worst resort experience I've ever had. I know Cuba isn't a place to expect luxury or perfection. I've been before and understand how things can be. This fell far below even average standards for a Cuban resort. This was a Memories Caribe issue, not a “Cuba issue.” We requested an accessible room two weeks ahead and were promised one. Instead, we got a second-floor room with no railings leading up to it. It was unsafe and unacceptable for guests who need accessibility. When I asked to move, there was no real solution. We had no hot water for the entire week. Every day they said they were working on it and would move us if they couldn't fix it. Later we learned this had been an ongoing problem for months. It was never fixed, and we were repeatedly misled. After the first night we found numerous bed bug bites. Cleanliness and hygiene clearly aren't a priority here. Basic things were a constant struggle too. We went days without clean towels unless I repeatedly called the front desk. I was told housekeeping needed “permission” to give us towels, which is absurd. When towels and blankets finally arrived, they smelled like stinky feet. Disgusting. The room was poorly maintained. Only two of the three lights worked, the iron didn't fit the outlets, and every TV channel was pure static. Just more signs of a lack of care and basic maintenance. No hot water, bed bugs, inaccessible rooms, filthy linens, broken amenities, and constant runaround from staff aren't “normal for Cuba.” This is unacceptable anywhere. If you're considering Memories Caribe, don't. Save your money, time, and sanity.

We had a very good time, even with the crappy weather. The staff were very nice, and the coffee was really good. Get the Spanish coffee at the lobby bar. The food was surprisingly good too, with meat, fish, and seafood. I had just come back from Holguin in August and hadn't eaten for a week, so I expected the same, but it wasn't like that here. Bring salt and pepper. The beach was nice. Seaweed washed up during the bad weather, but staff did a good job cleaning it. One day the drink station closed because of the weather even though people were still on the beach. It should have stayed open. The Premium Club was open. We had lukewarm water all week. That hot water problem needs to be fixed before I can return. Ask for a second-floor room in a building near the beach. We were in newly renovated building 17. There are lots of dogs and cats around the resort.

We felt at home throughout our stay, thanks to the friendly and professional staff, from reception and housekeeping to the bartenders and entertainers. They kept smiling and made us feel genuinely welcome. The food and drinks were very good, with lots of options, Cuban flavors, and excellent cocktails, especially the tropical classics. Service was efficient and attentive. The beach was clean and well kept, with white sand and clear turquoise water. The resort feels peaceful, yet there is plenty to do. Daily activities were well organized and fun for everyone, from pool games to beach activities and interactive programs. Evenings were a highlight. The entertainment team put on energetic shows with music, dance, and live interaction celebrating Cuban culture and talent. The performers were engaging and charismatic, and every night had a lively atmosphere. Overall, this Cayo Coco resort balances relaxation with excitement. We would happily recommend it and return.
