Luis and his wife are delightful, and their home is beautiful. Our room was immaculately clean. Make sure you have breakfast, served on the roof or in the lovely shaded patio. Luis can suggest things to see and arrange taxis, and he's such a joy to spend time talking with. We'll be back! You'd be crazy to stay anywhere else in Cienfuegos.
The breakfast was horrible, with moldy ham, and the welcome pineapple juice was watered down. We also had trouble getting back inside: we rang and knocked for 30 minutes before anyone opened the door, and we have to ring the bell every time we want to enter. The casa is near the main avenue and a bar, so it's noisy late at night and early in the morning. Our room was small, the sheets stained, and the hot water was cold. At least the air conditioning was quiet. The rather pompous welcome had already put us on alert. We asked the host to find us a taxi from Cienfuegos to El Nicho to Trinidad. He said, "Tranquillo, no problemo!" But on the morning we were leaving, he told us he hadn't found one and said it would be best to go straight to Trinidad. Lots of smiles, not much professionalism. Avoid.
An interesting spot to spend time with family.
