The town feels pretty deserted, especially after dark. The hotel itself is attractive, with roomy, nicely decorated rooms, but our shower only had cold water. Drinks at the bar cost far too much, and the coffee was really bad.

The rooms looked good, but the Wi-Fi didn't work and the restaurant had very little variety. This doesn't feel like a four-star place.
From the balcony I could see the city and JM Park, and José Martí Park is only a minute away on foot, with lots of tourist spots nearby. My room was clean and spacious, and staff had left me a handwritten welcome card. There are free performances in the lobby, too. Breakfast might seem just okay in the US, but by Cuban standards it was top-tier. The woman at the front desk was helpful. I really liked staying here.
We ducked into Hotel San Carlos yesterday afternoon to get out of the approaching storm and have a quiet drink and a pleasant chat. It's right in the historic center, a good spot for that. The hotel dates to 1925 and mixes original architecture with newer details intended for comfort. We ordered two cappuccinos, a Mojito, and a pizza. Service was good.
The rooms were just right, and the location makes it easy to walk pretty much anywhere in town. The staff were both professional and kind. Keep the situation in the country in mind.
