The building is beautiful, and the staff were amazing. Service was good too.

The breakfast was excellent, and the stylish renovation gives this small, state-run hotel a fresh feel. For a stay in Gibara, it's best to book ahead through a Cuban travel agency. In Cuba, turning up and booking a room on site can cost much more, and the management may be unable or not allowed to give a discount.

Hotel Arsenita has a warm, almost magical feel inside. Set in Gibara's old fishing-village center, the historic 20th-century building is a real architectural gem.

The rooms felt so cozy after their full renovation, and Cuban trova was playing during dinner. We were welcomed with a drink and a lovely scented cool towel. I was touring Cuba recently, and this place was truly beautiful, comfortable, and pleasant.
