Cubanacan Club Acuario

There were large dead cockroaches inside the bathroom ceiling light covers, and the resort was poorly maintained, with broken things left unrepaired. Food choices were very limited, and most staff weren't pleasant, especially at reception. The bathroom door had no knob, just a hole where it should be. There was little or no entertainment, and the resort is very isolated.

I've been to Cuba 10 times and stayed in everything from 2-star hotels to ultra all-inclusive 5-stars. I'm easy to please and pretty forgiving here, but Hotel Acuario is the worst by far. Service throughout was lacking and felt insincere. The facilities are in rough shape. There are deep dips in the paving stones on the main walkway that would take 10 minutes to fix if anyone cared. The grounds are filthy. Cigarette butts and a plastic cup have been in the hallway for FIVE DAYS. Most guests seem loud and ignorant, and poolside stereo music blasts until midnight, so forget about resting. The elevators don't work at all. The room has issue after issue: air conditioning works only sometimes; there are no chairs on the balcony, though I wouldn't sit out there anyway; one of the two room chairs wobbles so badly I was afraid to use it. The toilet paper holder, towel rack, and wall lamp beside the bed are all coming off the wall. The mattress is completely dead. The drawer front came off in my wife's hand. The pillows look like they were cut in half lengthwise and joined end to end. The balcony door bearings are gone, and when it's closed there's a 2-inch gap at the top. I don't know how that's even possible. Both the room and bathroom doors stick and have to be forced. The food is sad. I've eaten better at a 2-star hotel. Dinner is supposed to start at 7:00, but last night the door was still locked at 10 after 7, and nobody apologized when it finally opened. Drink prices are ridiculous: 2 rum and cokes are FREE, but a can of just Coke costs a BUCK. A bottle of water at the bar is a BUCK too, and you have to pay for it at RECEPTION. They're often out of many foods and drinks, especially Pina Colada mix. The outside tablas are a nice place to eat, but staff are happy to watch you gather your own glasses, cutlery, and napkins. This hotel badly needs NEW MANAGEMENT. All these problems come from management not caring. I'm 2 DAYS from checkout and seriously thinking of finding another hotel and paying twice for the last 2 nights. I'm typing this on the fly, so I'm sure I've missed quite a bit. I had an amazing holiday, and the staff were so friendly. Ms Josefa especially greeted us warmly every morning. The rooms were a great standard, and the marina view was stunning. Thank you for making my visit to Cuba so welcoming.

The pool was nice, but the buffet had flies and the surroundings need cleaning. We didn't stay overnight, just spent the day. Hemingway Bay is beautiful, though maybe another hotel would be better.
