The beach is lovely, though you’ll want to get there early for a chair or tip the chair attendants well. Most of the staff were amazing, and people like Alibeth, Dixie, Roberto, Yosmani, Rodriguez, Angie, Mylaina, Felix, Raul, Tony, Leonardo, Maria and Alex made a real difference with their smiles and kindness. They’re the kind of Cuban people we love meeting on trips. The rooms feel dated, and there are sand flies and mosquitoes. This place is far from a four-star resort, so don’t be taken in by vendor reviews. Shortages are real; if you think you might need something, pack it. There were too many rude, entitled guests. If you bring supplies, consider toiletries, first aid items, clothes or things for kids. Cubans can’t get peroxide. Join the Facebook groups and ask staff before your trip whether they need anything. If you have an item at home you don’t use, you could bring it as a gift.

The views were a highlight, from the beautiful beaches to the mountains on the drive in. My trip was meaningful and enjoyable, especially when a gentleman working by the sailboats and paddle boats took me out on a private sailboat ride so I could spread a loved one’s ashes. He was respectful and kind, and even filmed it for me. I’m very grateful for that. The main drawback was the sand flies. There were lots, and the bites got quite uncomfortable before I noticed them. My room had a double bed and a charming vintage feel, though it wasn’t modern. The air conditioning was wonderfully cold, and housekeeping kept everything spotless, even making towel origami. Food at the resort was limited, so picky eaters might want to bring condiments or dried snacks. Eating off resort was excellent, and the fishing excursion was especially worth it, with the fish cooked for us. Sunwing handled the trip smoothly, including transportation. My room cards were ready on arrival, so check-in was easy. My friends and I booked two excursions through Osmide, who was fantastic, made sure everyone was happy and took beautiful photos for me. The staff were welcoming, especially Ana, who was incredibly caring and helpful whenever I had questions. For the price, I felt the resort was worth it.

Walking into Playa Costa Verde feels like getting a warm Cuban welcome. Ana and Claudia from customer service treated us like family and always go out of their way to make our stay just right. They’re friendly, knowledgeable and ready to help. Their service stands out from any other hotel in the area.

The beach and water were wonderful, the Cuban people so kind and welcoming, and we really enjoyed the safari trip. But for me, the problems outweighed those good parts, and I wouldn’t recommend Playa Costa Verde. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. Honestly, the ground might have been better. Food was a letdown too: for all seven days it was basically the same. The Italian and Cuban restaurants served the buffet dishes with a fancier presentation, but that didn’t improve the experience.

The beach was beautiful, the food surprised me in a good way, and the staff were kind and gave great service. I couldn’t find anything to complain about with them. We had no water or power cuts, despite what you might hear from other reviews. I’d put the place around 3.5 stars. Our room took about three hours to be ready, and it was pretty dirty. One handle kept falling off whenever we pulled it, though they fixed it quickly. Music starts at 8 a.m. and is extremely loud, so it’ll wake you if you’re near the buffet.
