VOI Praia de Chaves Resort

One thing to know before staying: €100 was missing from our room on the last day. We reported it at reception and filled in a form, but had to leave before the matter was resolved. I don’t want to accuse anyone, but I strongly recommend using the room safe. Afterwards, I was very disappointed by how management handled our attempts to get some closure. They kept brushing us off and repeating that the money should have been in the safe. I know that. I wanted to know whether they’d reached any conclusion or taken responsibility. I no longer care about the money itself as much as the disrespectful way they treated guests at a hotel that’s meant to be five-star. To be clear, I’m not blaming the hotel staff. They were kind and did their best. My issue is with upper management, whose conduct was completely unprofessional. The hotel was very clean and well maintained, and the receptionists were friendly, professional and ready to help. The animation team seemed a little shy about inviting people to activities unless they were Italian. If you’re not shy, you can join in yourself, but I didn’t feel they made much extra effort with us. A few even seemed a bit unpleasant when we wanted to join bingo. The food was good, though we expected more seafood and freshness given the location. Drinks were good too. It was a nice stay apart from the things that need improvement. We didn’t have a single issue with the hotel, and the kids loved both the pool and the ocean waves. Our 11-year-old liked going into the sea with a swimming buoy. Children under 130 cm who can’t swim may have a hard time. The water isn’t suited to longer, technical swims, it’s more for bouncing over the waves and surfing, but that was fine.

The setting is beautiful and the staff are super. The rooms are pleasant and cleaned well, though they could use some TLC. I noticed lots are being upgraded now, so watch this space!

A really lovely hotel and an awesome experience. For Cape Verde, I’d call it five-star, though honestly not at the level of Punta Cana or Cancun. The staff were exceptionally friendly, especially at the bars, and the animation team was great. There was a huge range of high-quality food. Praia de Chaves beach was AMAZING. Don’t be put off by the constant waves, they’re very weak and break when the water is around knee deep. It was a bit windy, which actually made the hot weather more bearable. July 2025. We highly recommend it.
