I was lucky to find this brand new hostel on my first visit to the island, since most places cost more. The location is fantastic and the staff are really helpful. Because it was so new, there was lots of quiet space. Having a kitchen and good internet is a real plus, especially if you work remotely.

It's closed now and looks abandoned.

It's still closed, and the electricity has been disconnected.

The place didn't resemble the photos when we arrived. Several rooms had mold, and there were signs of cockroaches in the kitchen. There was no way to cook, and there was no electricity or Wi-Fi either. We even wondered whether it had simply been abandoned.

Paulo made our stay in Maio special. He's passionate about his island, attentive, and full of great advice. The hostel is pleasant and very well located, and the staff are fantastic. Thanks again for everything!
