The hosts made us feel at home, and we spent hours chatting with them. Gira Lua is one of those places and people that stay with you. The house looks out over Mosterios village, and from there the slow hike through coffee fields and eucalyptus forest to the magnificent volcano takes about 3 to 3.5 hours. That hot shower afterwards was very welcome. Meals felt like home cooking, with fresh fish and vegetables, delicious homemade cakes, and tasty honey ponche. We even saw neighborhood children bringing the vegetables each day. We were so glad we rented a room here instead of in Cha das Caldeiras.

The view over the landscape and sea is lovely, and the hosts take good care of their guests. They can arrange a taxi to Sao Felipe and sell local products such as fogo coffee and wine from the cha. The room is in a separate neighboring house near donkeys and chickens, rather than in the red house where dinner and breakfast are served. It was well protected from mosquitoes. Wi-Fi, as described, is only available in the main house. Dinner was very good, and breakfast was a normal Cabo Verde standard, with omelettes and fresh juice available. Best coffee we had at any of our accommodations. A very nice place to stay after walking from Cha das Caldeiras.

Djuly was a really friendly, helpful host. The house sits right on the trail between Cha das Caldeiras and Mosteiras, which makes it handy for hikers. Village life is interesting too, and the local people are very friendly when you get to know them. Enjoy Gira Lua!

A great spot to rest.

The view is incredible, though getting to the sea means enjoying a walk. It takes about 50 minutes on foot, and it's worth it. The people running the guesthouse are extremely kind and helpful, and they answered all our questions. They can also call a shared taxi, an aluguer, to take us down to town.
