The receptionists at both Santa Maria and Deluxe were professional and kind, but my dealings with hotel management were disappointing. I had booked two nights before a planned trip. My plans changed on the first day, so I couldn’t stay the second night, and I politely asked management for a refund for that night. They said there was a no-refund policy and didn’t seem willing to help. I can’t recommend the hotel because of what felt like a lack of commitment to customer care. I’m unsure whether I was treated this way because I’m a local immigrant, but I felt disrespected. I believe they might have found a solution if I’d been a Portuguese guest. I travel often in Cape Verde and elsewhere and have stayed in many hotels; in Praia, there are others with better management and a better guest experience. This was my first stay here, and I’m hesitant to return. I hope this feedback helps improve how customers are treated.

The location worked really well for us, just two blocks from the pedestrian street on Plateau with its restaurants and live music. Kaza Katxupa was one of our favorite restaurants, and Cafe Sophia, just down the street, also had exceptionally good food and live music. Our included breakfast was at Hotel Santa Maria, less than a five-minute walk away. We stayed several nights, and the rooms were clean and modern with good WiFi. Staff at both Delux ApartHotel and its sister property Hotel Santa Maria were professional, accommodating, and very hospitable.

The rooms are modern and very nice, and reception is open around the clock at the entrance. I stayed one night and didn’t have hot water, which was the only downside.

The hotel itself was clean and functional, with air conditioning and comfortable beds. But I want to warn women, especially those traveling alone, about a shocking experience. A night receptionist tried to force a kiss on me while escorting me to my room, saying, “I can't help myself.” I couldn’t sleep that night. The next day I spoke to a lovely manager who listened carefully and will surely take the necessary steps.

The price left us disappointed. They quoted a low amount, then added a tourist tax of 275 escudos per person, higher than the stated price, and we had to share a bathroom. Our room lock didn’t work, so we constantly needed an escort to get out. The shower gel dispenser was empty and stayed that way after we reported it. TV reception was poor too.
