We were very unhappy with the accommodation and checked out after one night, even though the location was very good. The room was in unacceptable condition: there were cockroaches, someone else’s hair covered the bed linen, and the shower smelled very bad. It was hot and loud at night, and we couldn’t open the windows. The ventilator wasn’t working either. Eugénio Cabral was very helpful and tried his best to offer us another room, but we didn’t want to move to another room and stay in that unpleasant environment, so we left.

Adaja and Miguel, the owners, are really nice and know loads about the town, the island, and Cape Verde, including things you won’t find in a guidebook. The guesthouse is right in central Santa Maria but away from the noise of the walking street. The bed is comfortable, the whole house is very clean, and there are kitchen facilities. Lovely little place, and excellent value for money. Highly recommended!

Casa Blu Guesthouse is right in the center, but away from the noise and nightlife. It’s a colonial house, extremely clean, and managed by lovely people who were very flexible. I felt very safe there as a woman traveling solo, and the beach, restaurants, and bars were all within walking distance. I had a fantastic week in Santa Maria /Sal, and my stay here was one of the reasons. I’m happy with my choice and already feel a lot of Sodade.

It’s hard to beat this spot in Santa Maria, close to everything. The place is very clean and colourful, and the terrace is a great place to hang out. A special thank you to Katiana, who supported us and shared great recommendations.
