Hotel Riu Touareg - All Inclusive

The balcony view was the best we’ve had on any of our stays here: you could see the infinity pool, beach and sea, and the sunsets were amazing. We spent 12 days in lovely hot sunshine, our third holiday on Boa Vista and second time staying at the Touareg. The rooms are a bit dated, but they were cleaned every day. There were two bottles of water in the fridge and two by the tea tray. My only small gripe is that the tea supplies weren’t replenished after day two, though we could get things from the restaurant. The staff are always smiling and work hard in every role, from porters and gardeners to reception. Food was lovely, with a good mix of hot and cold dishes and desserts each day. There were a few flies, but no more than you’d expect around food at a garden barbecue. If you want a stress-free break with little to do beyond reading by the pool or beach, this place fits. We’re looking forward to coming back after the refurbishment.

The beach is lovely, with loungers, umbrellas and a shaded spot, plus daytime activities such as volleyball at set times. We liked the pools too, and there were plenty of loungers when we went. Some pool tiles look old and unsightly, almost like black stains, and the jacuzzis in the gym and by the pool weren’t warm. The room was clean and the bed comfortable, with good air conditioning, but it felt like a standard room in need of an update. My door handle came off and the sink was cracked; when I called, someone fixed the handle promptly. Service across the hotel was great, and the staff do a good job. Food was decent and we could always find something we liked. I’m not really into hotel entertainment, but it was nice to sit and listen to a band or ABBA. Drinks were watered down as expected, though asking for extra rum made them quite decent. The mojitos at the main reception bar were excellent. Beer and wine were on tap at breakfast, lunch and dinner. We booked the Italian, which was still buffet style but all Italian food; the other restaurants needed booking three days ahead, and we were only there for three days. The hotel is a good choice for an easy beach break. It’s 30 minutes from the main town, with taxis usually outside, and the airport drive was also 30 minutes. We rented a car there for €30.

The smaller infinity pool was our pick because it was quieter and more laid back. The main pool had loud music on for much of the day. We never had trouble finding a sunbed at the hotel or on the beach, which was a beautiful, clean five-minute walk away. Nobody hassled us to buy things, though there are souvenir huts on either side. We stayed nine nights and had an amazing time. The room looked tired, but it was very clean and everything worked. The staff were wonderful, always going the extra mile with a smile. The food was okay, with lots to choose from and fresh dishes being prepared all the time. The hotel was clean throughout. The shop on site is expensive, but handy if you need something before it closes at 21:30. We’d definitely return after the refurbishment. Thanks for a wonderful holiday.

The beach was phenomenal, with miles of golden sand and Atlantic waves straight out of a movie. The complex is huge and has several pools, including a children's area with pools and swings. Food was great, with several restaurants and bars and always something to eat or drink. Everyone working there was cheerful and keen to help. Our room was kept spotless and well maintained, although it looked a little worn and could use the refurbishment I believe is starting in May this year. We’re looking forward to coming back once it’s done. I didn’t take my phone out of the safe, so I don’t have many photos. My wife sent me a couple to attach.
