The surroundings are beautiful, and the hotel is well located for starting the Cruzinha to Ponta de Sol trail. The staff are very friendly, and breakfast was okay with some variety. There’s plenty to improve, though: our room had no toilet paper, the WiFi didn’t work, and the bathrooms smelled of sewage, especially in the middle of the night. The pool couldn’t be used, and we had a mosquito party in the room, so I wouldn’t leave the windows open.

The location and room were good, but some things didn’t match what was listed. There was no water in the pool. When we asked, the owner said, “Who wants to swim in winter?” He later said Booking.com mentioned the pool was empty in winter, but we couldn’t find that information. He also said people hadn’t swum when there was water, not even dipping a toe in. He suggested the beach, but there was always a red flag and the sea was too rough to swim. The room also had no electric kettle, though Booking.com said it did, and there was just one broken sunbed. The older owner speaks several languages, including Dutch, but kept his distance from guests. He did order us a great Land Cruiser taxi.

The view is stunning, and the rooms are clean. The person at the restaurant gave us the warmest welcome I’ve ever had and made an incredibly delicious dish. I recommend it to everyone.

The setting is spectacular, but the rooms feel run down. The rest of the staff were very nice, especially the smiling cook. The manager, though, was the most obnoxious, unfriendly, and hypocritical person we met on our trip, and was very unaccommodating.
