The food was terrible, and I was left hungry, which was a big disappointment. We did like the location, the beautiful sea and the hotel’s decor, though the rooms could be furnished more luxuriously. Jessica at reception and Nathanael deserve special mention: both were young and spoke the language perfectly. Narcisso, the hotel driver, was also very pleasant, drove safely and was great company.

Lunch was a highlight, with plenty to choose from, good quality and fair prices. Dinner was less successful: the chicken was chewy, the falafel stale and barely warm, though the octopus was great. We loved the spacious, comfortable room and relaxing on the terrace, and the staff were friendly throughout. A lovely stay at Hotel King Fisher Village. I’d come back!

The restaurant was the letdown for us. Dinner didn’t meet expectations, and none of the dishes we tried convinced us. With mains at €20 or more and European prices, I expected well-trained staff, efficient service and at least basic English. For a hotel costing around €250 a night, the restaurant service fell short. The hotel itself is a different story: it’s clearly above Cape Verdean standards, with a great location, especially from a sea-view room, well-equipped rooms, generally helpful and friendly staff, particularly the woman at reception, and a solid breakfast. I’d recommend staying there, but for food I’d choose one of Tarrafal’s excellent local kitchens, which offer much better value and quality.

The view was fabulous and the hotel itself was remarkable, but our lunch at the King Fisher restaurant left my wife and me very disappointed. We both became very sick right afterward and were ill for days. Be careful about what you eat there.

The rooms, location and pool area were all very nice, and the reception staff were lovely. Dinner was mediocre for the price, so I’d eat somewhere else if staying here. The Swiss waitress seemed out of place with the Cape Verdean vibe, and some waiters didn’t speak any English, which we expected at this price level.
