Punta West Bed & Breakfast

The room was spacious and clean, with lovely views of the hills and sea. It was a quiet spot, aside from a rooster, and a short walk or drive from both popular beaches and hidden gems. Willemstad is around a 45-minute drive away. Darrell and Alex were especially great, as was the rest of the staff. Breakfast is included with several choices. Dinner is worth having too: big servings, delicious food, and a great price for what you get. We especially liked the catch of the day and the Punta West babyback ribs. Parking inside the gate can get tricky when it's busy because space is limited. A local rooster also called out late at night and very early in the morning. Those were small issues in an otherwise lovely place.

The view from upstairs was beautiful, and there’s a really sweet, friendly dog living outside. The staff were nice, and the hotel was clean with a good restaurant. We had to change rooms because the A/C in our first one wasn’t working. One concern: the exit door was locked at night, with no way out, which I think is a fire hazard. The signs for finding the hotel are small, so keep an eye out. I’d recommend staying here if you’re visiting the north end of Curaçao.

The breakfast was varied and tasty, though it was odd that the chef baked his own bread but we were served unattractive toast. The manager insisted on serving us, but moved so slowly that I made another coffee myself. It all felt strange. Does the owner not care about good reviews and advertising? Finding the place was harder than it should have been because the signs were poor. Check-in was difficult too, since the manager had disappeared. A chef who spoke Spanish checked us in instead; he was very polite and helpful. Our first room was okay and quite large, with a clean bathroom, balcony, and big bed. It had no fridge, though, and looked out over a hut farm. I asked to switch to a similar room facing the ocean. The manager showed us one, and after a brief chat we agreed to free up the room. About 80% of the rooms were empty then. The next day, the cleaner showed us the room we were meant to move into, but it wasn't the one the manager had shown us, and there was a stink in the stove. When I raised this, the manager said he was doing us a great favor and that it was free, so we went back to the first room.

We loved our stay here back in 2017. The staff and manager were friendly and accommodating, and the free breakfast was fresh, delicious, and made to order each morning. Our room and bathroom were modern, spacious, and spotless. We preferred this part of the island because it was quiet and more natural. We drove to a different beach every day. I'd recommend it to anyone.
