San Remo Hotel

The rooms are a bit dated, but they’re kept impeccably clean each day. Staff were consistently friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was quite satisfactory for the affordable price, whether included or added for 5€. The location makes getting around easy: it’s close to the airport and beach, and the city center is accessible too. WiFi was rather fast for an island, at 93/93 MB/s. For the price, I found it good value. If you’re picky, stay away.

Janusz from the bar and restaurant deserves a special mention. He was incredibly friendly and positive, and made our stay more pleasant. Lunch and dinner were at a partner hotel about 300 meters away, and both were excellent, 10 out of 10. Plenty of food, nothing missing, and truly delicious. Breakfast at San Maremo Hotel was a different story. It was a buffet, but often poorly managed. Many items were gone by the time the first guests arrived, and later guests could be left with very little. Refills took a long time. Once, there were no plates, cutlery or coffee cups, and about 90% of the food was gone. Food and tableware only started appearing again after what seemed like a manager intervened. The rooms and service were average. Staff were kind and friendly, but the organization wasn’t outstanding. Still, it’s affordable and well located near the city center and sea, so I’d recommend it for a short stay.

I asked to change rooms, but the second one was just as bad, if not worse. There weren’t even bulbs in the lamps. The staff looked embarrassed, but that didn’t change the situation. I stayed polite, then cancelled and moved to another hotel in Larnaca at my own expense. I couldn’t stay another hour, and the dirt raised real hygiene concerns. The rooms at San Remo Hotel were in unacceptable condition, filthy beyond what I can describe as merely dirty. The beds were broken, the furniture was old and damaged, and some of it was damp. Dust and dirt were everywhere. In 30 years of travel, I’ve never seen anything like it. I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but this experience needs to be said. I wouldn’t repeat it.

The good things were the location and breakfast. There are a few very good restaurants nearby, Petros is a fairly priced supermarket, and the sea is close for taking photos. It’s about a 20-minute walk to the center, so there’s no need for a taxi. Breakfast is included and was actually very good, with bacon, eggs and more. Thankfully, the room had air conditioning. The rooms were ugly, the fridge didn’t work, and the balcony was pretty useless. From the street-facing side, though, you can spot planes easily. The pool was under construction, and hopefully they’ll renovate the outdated pool bar too. San Remo feels stuck in the past. It may be the cheapest hotel in Larnaca, but for me it’s no longer worth it. The place has huge potential, which makes it sad. They have plenty of staff, but still nobody seems to care. Shame on the manager.
