Sylva Hotel

The room was spotless and had everything I needed, including a powerful AC that came in handy in the summer heat. Wi-Fi was free, fast, and reliable enough for my work emails. Check-in was quick and the staff made me feel welcome straight away. I picked this hotel after seeing the good reviews, and it lived up to them. I especially liked the rooftop terrace and its wide city views, a lovely place for coffee in the morning or to unwind later. The restaurant served a good mix of tasty local and international dishes. With public transport and several attractions close by, it was easy to get around. A pleasant, hassle-free stay, I’d recommend it.

The room had a horrible smell, there was no Wi-Fi, and the towels felt like rags. It was dirty, extremely noisy, and in awful condition. We could barely sleep at night, and there were cockroaches and bed mites in the room. Disgusting. The staff were impolite and arrogant, which was especially disappointing since they were Asian like me. They showed no manners or professionalism. The online ads were completely misleading and far from the truth. There are plenty of nearby hotels that are clean, well-priced, and much more decent. This place felt creepy, like a horror movie or a serial killer’s hideout. Is it haunted or what? Honestly, it should be shut down. I don’t understand how it’s still operating, and I can’t wait for the day it closes. Avoid it at all costs. Hands down the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had.

The front desk girl was welcoming and helpful, and the location is excellent for the seafront. Parking is free, too. It’s a quirky, quaint hotel that still feels stuck in the 80s. The room could use some TLC, and the pool was available but too cold for me. The foyer decor is eclectic, with some superb paintings on display.

The location is the only real plus. There isn’t another hotel in that area unless you’re willing to spend a lot more, but I’d rather drive 20 minutes to the beach than stay here. One staff member was lovely, an Asian lady who seemed overworked and underpaid. She deserves better than this place. My sister and I had booked seven nights, but we left during the third night and found another hotel. The rooms were dirty, there were bugs, and the staff were unpleasant. After the first night we asked them to deal with the bugs, but nothing was done. When we went back the next morning to complain, they handed us an empty bottle of bug spray and expected us to sort it out ourselves. The day after, I had a massive argument with one of the owners when we asked for a refund for the remaining four nights. Eventually, we did get those four nights refunded, but for some reason I had to prove I’d booked another hotel. Want a haunted house for the hell of it? This hotel is worse than any you can imagine. You get yelled at for asking for a room without bugs, a green, dirty pool, and what feels like 24-hour room service for the bugs instead of you. There are live shows every morning, too, with the owners yelling at some poor customer. We won’t be back. I’d rather sleep on a comfy pile of dirt.
