Bellapais Monastery Village

The restaurant is very attractive, and the dessert was wonderful. Staff were kind and helpful, and the rooms and surroundings were tidy and clean. It’s a very elite, beautiful place to stay, quiet and peaceful. Most customers are older British people, which I think makes it more attractive. Parking can be a problem, but it can be sorted out.

The staff were lovely and the food was lovely, and the site is beautiful, but my partner and I were very disappointed during our two-week summer stay. Our bungalow stank and the pool was filthy. It’s in the middle of nowhere, so you really need to rent a car before going because availability is limited, or take taxis everywhere. Anything worth visiting is about a 10-minute drive away. The television was very old-fashioned. Although it’s only bed and breakfast, guests aren’t allowed to bring their own food and drinks to the room. They want you to buy from them, even though there’s a supermarket a five-minute drive away selling food and drinks for half the price. We ignored that silly rule and brought our own drinks. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The food was beautiful, freshly prepared for every meal, and all the restaurant staff were lovely. Thanks to the chefs for all their hard work. Special thanks to Joyce for arranging a birthday cake for me, it was a wonderful thing to do and I was very grateful. Joseph and his waiters also made my birthday meal so lovely. We stayed for 2wks 5th to 19th and had a wonderful time. Everyone was friendly and happy to help. We’d booked a villa room but didn’t like it, so they changed it straight away and gave us a lovely hotel room. It’s rustic, quaint, quiet and charming, just what we wanted, and we felt comfortable and at home. Thanks, Julian & Miss Anita.

The only downside was being somewhat far from the city centre. There’s a FREE shuttle bus, taxis aren’t that expensive, and nearby restaurants even offer to pick you up for free if you choose to eat there. The room was very clean and got cleaned often. Staff were great, polite, and helpful, and there were plenty of breakfast choices. Dinner with live music, once a week maybe, was tasty. The pool was very nice, and the shuttle could take you to another hotel in the same “group” with even more pools. It wasn’t very expensive, so I’d say it’s great value for money. It’s a pretty common rule not to bring your own food, though I think they won’t mind a bottle of water or small snack in your room anyway. The food is good value too. Had a great holiday, and thanks to the staff for making it such a pleasure!
