Mayfair Hotel

We had a really good stay at the Mayfair hotel in February 2026. The food selection stayed good throughout, and the all-inclusive drinks list was decent. Most of the staff were friendly and efficient, though the woman at check-in seemed a bit grumpy. Our first-floor one-bedroom suite was spacious and quiet, but pretty basic for a 4-star hotel. There was a safe, but it cost extra. The evening entertainment was good, and the location was handy. A large modern shopping mall is just around the corner, and the archaeological sites, castle and old town are a 20-25 minute walk away.

The harbour was just a few minutes away, which was lovely to wander around. We spent four days here over Christmas with our family, including two young children, and came away feeling relaxed and content. The staff were so welcoming and accommodating, and the food had a fantastic range to suit everyone. Christmas Eve’s gala was superb, especially the saxophonist playing Christmas songs.

There are a lot of cats around the hotel and nearby, and one by the pool scratched my toddler. Dinner queues were the most frustrating part of the week. We stayed for February half term, and the Mayfair hotel and Mayfair gardens are apparently the same hotel. Both were clean and the staff were friendly. There was loud construction work in one of the main blocks. The pools were freezing, so my girls used the indoor one a couple of times. Food was never a problem, with plenty of choice for our family of six.

Loud music went on until 11 pm, so sleeping was impossible. We left feeling unhappy and wouldn’t recommend the hotel. Our room had a puddle on the floor when we arrived, the fridge had melted in the heat, around 30 degrees outside, and the air conditioning was off throughout the hotel. It was unbearably hot. When we raised the dirty room and broken AC with reception, among other things, they said no other rooms were available, although five more in our category could be booked online. The so-called suite was very basic and bare, with no wall art or decoration, and felt like a prison cell. Calling it a suite seemed a big overstatement. The kitchen was just a wooden board with no real use, there was no TV in the bedroom, and the living-room TV only had a Greek channel, which was no use to international guests. The sofa was cheap and uncomfortable. It was all pretty sad.
