Hotel Celnice

We've stopped at the restaurant four times a year on our way to and back from summer and winter holidays. The food is decent to good, and service is quick, which suits travelers on a schedule. But something went badly wrong with the prices last year. After eating there for over 10 years, I usually don't check the bill, and at first I thought the bank was trying to cheat me on the exchange rate. Nearly 9 euros for a double espresso, and almost 45 euros for two meals, soup, and drinks? For heaven's sake, it would've been cheaper to eat in Austria. I understand they cater to Austrian customers from across the border, but they'll lose people just passing through at these prices. That was my last visit.

The hotel is beside a forest, so the air is fantastic. Our room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was very good, and the front desk is available 24 hours. The restaurant next to the hotel serves delicious local food, with reasonable prices and portions.

Run with real care for the details, this lovely quiet hotel sits right in the middle of nature. It was super clean, and the breakfast buffet was generous, even including champagne. I'd definitely come back.

On a road trip through Eastern Europe, this unusual oasis is well worth a stop on the way from Bratislava to Prague. The food is excellent, and you can sample regional wines in the great wine cellar.
