The staff are incredibly kind, and many are people with disabilities. That made the atmosphere feel warm and human. A little patience and friendliness in communication goes a long way. There are a few practical things to know. Some rooms have gaps around the doors and transparent glass panels, so hallway or other room lights can shine in. An eye mask helps, and for privacy, changing in a corner of the room is a good idea since people in the corridor may be able to see inside. It can also get cold at night, even in mid-April. Warm sleepwear is useful, and blankets are available at the front desk. If noise bothers you, bring earplugs: the original doors are heavy and shut loudly, and the old ventilation system can be noticeable at night. The hotel retains much of its original WWII-era structure and atmosphere, so staying there feels like stepping back in time. I appreciated the historical authenticity and the chance to see how people once lived. It’s a meaningful, memorable way to experience history up close, and worth it if you’re open to something different.

The staff were super friendly and helpful, and they were happy to store my luggage after checkout. I’d recommend the place if you’re interested in history, though I wouldn’t plan on staying more than one night once the novelty wears off. Please don’t expect luxury. This really is a bunker and a museum where you can sleep. The retro-furnished rooms and sleeping bags take you back in time. Don’t expect mobile connection, only Wi-Fi deep inside the bunker. Breakfast was nice, with plates, cutlery and some foods that reminded me of socialism, including Májka liver paste, various spreads and a small cake. Martin gave me a guided tour. I was the only person taking part, so he did almost the whole tour in English. They also host events. The night I stayed there was a swing dance party in the big hall, but the corridor doors were well insulated and kept the noise out. I’d pack earplugs because the air filtering system runs all night and can be distracting. The bathrooms are mixed, though there are separate ones too if you can find your way through the bunker maze. They’re quite minimalist, as you’d expect from a bunker. There’s only one shower setting, which takes a while to warm up, but the water does get warm.

On my dream ride, I stayed at 10-Z for the second time, this time with my bicycle. Huge thanks to the staff, who went out of their way to sort out my booking confirmation and keep my bike secure. The historic atmosphere, central location, breakfast and value are amazing. A gem in a truly amazing city.

It’s a cool, interesting place, and the breakfast is quite good. People staying there seemed friendly, so it was easy to chat with neighbours. I’d say it’s worth one night, though maybe not a good fit for a longer stay.

I visited the MUSEUM, not the hostel, and really enjoyed it. You can take your time and explore on your own, with no rush. Kids are fine to bring, though I think it’s most worthwhile for ages 8 and up. Allow about an hour.
