Pension U Milana

The room was clean and roomy, but I can't say much else in its favor. It was dark, with poor ventilation from just one small dormer window, and there were hardly any amenities. The beds were uncomfortable, and every movement could be heard. The guesthouse sits right beside a busy road. Breakfast included old pastries, ham, cheese, yogurt, some cereal, and cold boiled eggs, with only coffee and tea to drink. I was particularly surprised they couldn't manage fresh pastries, or at least bake some. It seems some maintenance hasn't been done for years, perhaps even decades. The photos made the place look much better than it was. I can't recommend it, and it doesn't meet the standard for this price range. To be fair, the price may have been affected by the change in the euro exchange rate.

The owner is morose. Rooms are clean and fairly spacious, with a fridge in each one. There's a kettle and microwave in the hallway. The restaurant is downstairs, but you can't sit there in the evening. Breakfast is buffet style, there are no lunches, and dinner can be arranged in advance.

We found plenty of options for outings, and the village is well kept. The guesthouse is on the main road, yet our room was lovely and quiet. It had comfortable beds, a fridge, a TV we didn't get around to using, and a clean, spacious bathroom. There's a microwave and kettle on the floor, along with cups and cutlery. A single-burner stove is available, but there was no saucepan, which we didn't need anyway. There's also a ground-floor restaurant open Tuesday through Sunday. We had a great stay.

We stayed for a week, and the location worked well for day trips, with lots of beautiful places nearby: Kuks, St. Clement's quarry, Braun's nativity scene, Grandma's Valley, Dvůr Králové zoo, Les královés dam, and the Žireč baroque area.
