The setting is attractive and the views are great, but the grounds were neglected. The shared areas and outdoor terrace were dirty, and the playground equipment was falling apart. Flies made breakfast hard to enjoy: there were droppings inside and outside, on the furniture, children's toys, and even the chair upholstery, plus dead flies on the windowsills. This hardly felt child-friendly, despite what the website claims. Our children enjoyed the kittens in the garden and the braying donkey, but one kitten had a serious eye infection and didn't seem properly cared for. It's a shame a place with potential has ended up as a badly run, appallingly overpriced B&B. The owners came across as strange and unpleasant, and customers don't seem valued. Avoid. We booked at the last minute for two nights in Dvur Kralove to visit the ZOO. The website looked dodgy and the reviews were mixed, but everything else nearby was booked because of a music festival in Jozefov, and we were already travelling from Slovakia, so we gave it a try. It was a bad choice. A few hours before we arrived, the owner confirmed by phone that an apartment was available. When we got there late at night, he offered us a four-bed room instead. We accepted because it was late and we had young children, even though the bathroom smelled foul. The owner said it was temporary and would go away if we opened a window. The room itself was just okay, but the stench was unbearable, so we slept with the windows open. The shower drain was partly blocked. In the morning, we politely asked to move rooms, but were told German guests were arriving that day and the apartment was no longer available. We were unhappy but stayed polite. When we mentioned the blocked drain in good faith, the owner replied, “How interesting that everything was alright with the room before we arrived, but now that we're here everything's falling apart.” His wife accused us of having a “Slovakian complex” and said we'd been given a room instead of an apartment because I thought the apartment was too expensive. That wasn't true. We eventually got the apartment key, but chose to leave because we didn't like how we were treated as paying customers. They don't accept cards. We didn't have Czech crowns, so offered to pay in EUR, but they charged us far too much and didn't use the day's actual exchange rate. They also charged 50 CZK to use the TV, which is ridiculous. For the same price as their four-bed room, we stayed the following night in Pedebrady in newly built, very clean and comfortable accommodation with an excellent breakfast restaurant and polite, helpful staff.
