Chalupa na Fryšavě

The room we got was beautiful, almost like a little castle, and the beds were clean. The cottage itself is attractive and cozy, but the price feels far too high for what you actually get. We came with grandparents and children aged 0.5 to 4, and the layout was a real problem. Rooms sit at different levels, and the steps vary in height and width. Our three-year-olds kept stumbling, and they hit their bottoms several times on a narrow tiled step. Anyone with limited mobility would struggle here. The staircase upstairs creaks terribly, and the whole place is full of noises and squeaks, so it isn't great for children who aren't used to that. Cleaning needs more attention. Dust covered the wooden and stone walls, and there were cobwebs from the shelves to the wall and in several spots on the stone. I understand those surfaces are hard to maintain and spiders get into the cracks, but a quick sweep once a week would make a difference. A friend in the next room was bothered by a large crucifix, though that would not have bothered me. None of us liked the downstairs dining room either. There was a bed beneath old portraits of faces, with hanging witches around it, which looked a bit like a horror scene, so we ate upstairs instead. The photos seem to show a better period for the cottage. The advertised sandbox isn't there. The owner controls the room temperature remotely, and the sauna costs quite a lot extra. The kitchen has a stove, but no oven. The electrical setup is odd too: the switch by the stove turns off both the stove and dishwasher, then both start up again when switched back on. There weren't 20 beds as stated; I counted 16, with the rest being gym-style folding cots or a couch. There was a grill and fire pit, but you have to clean them yourself. I appreciated having a washer and dishwasher, though bring your own dishwasher tablets. I can't remember whether laundry detergent was provided. There was also a mix-up during our stay. The day before we were due to leave, another 20 people turned up at the gate, expecting to stay that night. The owners arranged other accommodation for them, but it was unpleasant, and we spent the whole afternoon at the cottage instead of going on our planned trip. I don't know how it would have been handled if we hadn't been there.
