Penzion Nad Oborou

Parking was easy and felt very secure, behind a gate that gets locked overnight. The rooms were spotless, and breakfast was plentiful. We chose "Penzion Nad Oborou" to get away from the big-city bustle, and the very quiet neighborhood delivered. The rooms are arranged so you don’t hear other guests. It’s far enough from the city for safe night walks, but close enough to reach the action when you want. In our view, it’s well above the Czech standard, and the best lodging experience we’ve had in Europe so far.

The room was good and breakfast was really good, too. The bathroom sits a meter higher than the room, which looks cool but isn’t very functional. Parking was free and secure. It was the quietest night of my life, with absolutely no noise, even in the distance.

The staff were friendly, pleasant, fluent in English, and very helpful. I also loved the excellent morning coffee. The buffet breakfast had a decent range of pastries and baked goods, fruit, juice, cheese, and other fresh items, with indoor seating and an outdoor terrace. It would have been nice to have a coffee pot so I didn’t need to ask the front desk for more, but they always served it with a smile. The free parking is on the property, in a gated lot that’s locked overnight. Guests get a key fob at reception for access. The guesthouse is on the outskirts of Hradec Kralove, about 20 minutes on foot, roughly 1.2 miles or 2 km, from the historic center. It was quiet there and in my room, which suited me well after a busy day. My Standard Double Room was spacious enough, clean, well furnished, and had what I needed: a comfortable bed, minibar fridge, standard-size bathroom with a hairdryer and corner shower, and free wifi that worked flawlessly. The room was warm and cozy on the cool mid-May nights. It was right under the roof, with a skylight, and had no air conditioning, just a portable fan, so it could be uncomfortable once the weather gets warmer. I appreciated the towel-reuse setup. The sign by the sink said to hang towels up to reuse them, or leave them on the floor for fresh ones. Thanks for a wonderful stay!
