Villa St. Tropez

I came from Canada to work in Prague for two months and arrived two nights ago. Veronika and her colleagues have been so helpful and accommodating in every way. She said they’d make sure I felt like family, and by day three, I really do. It’s a 10/10 so far, and it’s only day three! Woohoo. I’ll write another review while I’m here, since I expect more memorable, positive things will happen.

We couldn’t bring ourselves to sleep there, so we left at 11 pm after arriving at 9:30. There were multiple silverfish running around, and several other small insects on the floor. The headboard, carpet, and walls were stained, and the carpet smelled bad. At 70 € a night, this was hard to understand. The staff were nice, but the dirt and insects left me seriously concerned about my health.

We left a night early, after planning to stay two nights, and checked out the next morning. The man at reception didn’t ask why, but immediately wanted to know whether we’d taken anything from the minibar. Strange priorities. I was also surprised by the Booking rating. There was no sound insulation, and outside noise and sounds from both floors kept us from sleeping properly all night. The room felt old rather than rustic, with oddly musty cabinets and squeaky doors. There was mould on the windows, old, not very clean carpets, and used bed linen. The flat, soggy pillows had to be folded two or three times to resemble pillows, and still weren’t comfortable to sleep on. There was only one socket by the head of the bed, so I had to choose between using the light and charging my phone. Breakfast was the poorest I’ve had at any hotel. The ham and cheese seemed to be from the nearest supermarket, the yogurt came in plastic packaging, and the coffee was Americano style. The only hot choices were boiled eggs in their shells and small sausages. The cake was good, though I’m 99% sure that came from the supermarket too. The bathroom fan didn’t work, so five minutes in the shower turned it into a sauna. The yellow, weak lighting was no good for doing makeup. The towels were old and torn, and the toiletries were just four single-use packs of shower gel and soap. There was no shower curtain. It wasn’t worth the money, time, or nerve cells.

The restaurant was the one decent part. We had a decent lunch there, but breakfast was extremely poor and had no options. We checked out a day early because of everything else, and nobody even asked why. The hotel had an unpleasant smell and a creepy feel, with carpet and wood everywhere. The rooms were oddly arranged, with a couch in the middle and a cheap, dusty, smelly coffee table that looked like it came from a bazaar. The metal bed looked welded together and had a bad mattress, so it was very uncomfortable. With old windows and very thin walls, there was no sound insulation at all. We could hear other guests breathing, and all night there was screaming, hammering, and people running or walking around. I don’t know what was going on there. Please avoid this place!
