The restaurant was actually quite good, with really pleasant staff, and paying there by card caused no trouble. The rest of the stay was awful. My room was cramped and dated, and the radiator was stuck on full on a 32C day. At reception, I was told there were no other rooms if it didn’t cool down, though a later look at the hotel’s own website showed at least three available. Luckily, the radiator eventually switched off. Check-in was the worst part: the receptionist was rude and unhelpful, and insisted on full payment before handing over the key. The hotel’s card reader then failed through several card attempts and repeated PIN entries. I was told to drive to an ATM in a nearby town for Czech cash, until I insisted on speaking with the manager. The manager offered a more acceptable option.

We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant, and both were disappointing. The breakfast buffet was included in the price but had only a so-so selection. The room, though, was pleasant, comfortable, and well heated, and check-in went smoothly with staff speaking German and English. The heated swimming pool was clean and excellent. Sauna and steam room use cost extra. There was plenty of parking, but dogs aren’t allowed.

The walk we took was a nice 3-4 hours, along the track to Sušice near Zámek. We also had good quality breakfast, and dinner at the restaurant was delicious with a generous portion. The pool and sauna were included in the accommodation, and they even provided an extra towel and sheet with a carry bag. Everyone on staff was kind and understanding. It’s a lovely place for a relaxing break from busy city life, and I’d be happy to come back regularly.

The castle has been reconstructed with real care, despite having been almost collapsed, and it looks absolutely gorgeous. Staff were pleasant, and the restaurant served big portions. It felt luxurious without being too expensive. Just be aware that summer weddings are very common, so one may take place during your stay. We weren’t bothered by one at all. Highly recommended.

The snails were fantastic, some of the best I’ve had anywhere, and the beers and food were excellent too. The surroundings are really pretty, and the inside is decorated nicely. I’d say this restaurant is worth going out of your way to visit.
