Hotel U Šimla

The room was spacious, with good Wi-Fi, a nice bed, and good breakfasts. The receptionist was warm and helpful, and being a little way from the city center meant it was peaceful. There’s a racetrack for horses and a golf course nearby, so I imagine the view can be nice. Ours was on the ground floor, facing another building, and wasn’t much to look at. The room was also cold, with no heating, though it was September, so that was understandable. The toilet hadn’t been cleaned, and when we asked about it, nobody acted on the request. Those are the reasons for the missing star.

We found it easy to park on the street outside. Inside, we liked the decor, and I uploaded a few photos. We went for dinner with my family on a Friday after locals recommended the place, but it was surprisingly quiet. Sitting outdoors was an option, though smokers could make it unpleasant, so we ate inside. The food was good, if not outstanding. The corn on the cob was overcooked, for example. We tried four dishes, and the dessert was our favorite: strawberries fried in beer batter with ice cream. Service was ordinary, without the extra effort that might have made the meal special. I’d go back if I had the chance.

There was food left on the table by the previous guests. We asked for it to be cleared, but the request got a completely indifferent response and it stayed there. The whole time. Maybe that's a Czech tradition? (Hint: it isn't!)
