Hotel Purkmistr

The room was nice, but incredibly hot. Breakfast was a one-star experience, and the reception was hardly better. I was on a business trip and got back from dinner at 10 p.m. without my key card, which I’d left in the room. Reception was closed, and neither of the two emergency numbers displayed outside worked. After an hour, I asked a colleague if I could sleep in his room. Good thing I wasn’t alone, because otherwise I couldn’t even have opened the main door. It was freezing outside. What if this happened to someone with young children? Reception opened at 8 the next day, but nobody was there except a cleaner, who luckily let me in. Later, I wanted an explanation. The receptionist said I must have dialled the wrong numbers, so I called one again and her phone rang 😀. After a long chat with a colleague, she said it was simply my fault for leaving the card in the room. That was almost funny. A simple “I’m really sorry” would have been enough, but I don’t think you can expect that here. 30-March-2023

The building is beautiful and historic, well kept from the outside, and in a great location. Reception was the only service that was OK. This definitely doesn’t feel like a four-star hotel. My room had no heating. If the air conditioner is supposed to count as a heater, it does a poor job. The room was stuffy with a small window, and the bathrooms in the three rooms I saw had a lot of damp and black mould in the shower corners. Breakfast was the biggest disaster. It’s hard to describe: cold sausages, pastries running out quickly, no option to order even an omelette, and poor-quality coffee from a home coffee machine. The underground rooms were stuffy and smelled unpleasantly damp. In general, everything seemed lacking; you had to ask for things, and the food products were quite low quality. That’s not a four-star standard.

The surrounding area is very pleasant, and I had a lovely room. The hotel staff were polite and flexible. They easily fixed a mistake in my reservation and prepared a breakfast box because I had to leave early. I couldn’t ask for more.

We’re a family of four and wanted a shower after the trip. I went last, and halfway through, the warm water ran out, then all the water stopped. I was standing there covered in shampoo like in a comedy movie 🙂. A couple of minutes later, everything started working again. The room itself was very good, up on the roof, with a terrace and a nice view.
