Hotel Koldum

The kind receptionist was the only reason the high rating made any sense to me. We didn't even risk staying overnight, since the parking lot outside seemed cleaner than the hotel. There was mold, a stench, and mustiness everywhere, with old, damaged furniture, rusty drawers, dirty windows, and waste left from previous guests. I could list another thirty things, but I'll spare you. I've travelled all over Europe and have never seen anything like this. Read the reviews carefully. This place isn't worth what it costs, or any money at all.

I didn't take photos because I was afraid the camera lens might not survive. The room had been cleaned as well as possible, and opening the balcony door cleared the unpleasant smell. But the room was cold and stank, and there was no district heating, though the weather outside was warm. The cheaper option might have been worse than the more expensive one, but the condition was still appalling. The balcony door was held shut with a hook like one for hanging a chandelier. It took a lot of force to open the shared balcony door, and even then it wouldn't close fully. Some window panes had silicone repairs, while others had nothing holding the glass in the frame. The frames were rotten, like neglected windows from the First World War. A wooden board stood in for the bottom pane of the balcony door, and the threshold had been missing for at least twenty years. The bathroom bulb gave less light than a candle. Near the elevator the corridor had a little light, then there were about 15 m of darkness before light from the next corridor. Scouts could easily earn their courage or self-denial badge by sleeping in a place like this. At least I didn't find visible bedbugs or other creatures in the room. Maybe they'd all escaped years ago from the cold and stink.

I wouldn't recommend staying here in autumn or winter. The heating was on, but it was only a small electric heater that couldn't warm the room, which was around 15-17 degrees. Turning on the hairdryer blew the fuses. Mrs. Spravcová and the cleanliness were the only good things about the hotel.

They never replied to my emails, and the receptionist was immediately rude and unhelpful on the phone. His attitude was disgusting, and I eventually hung up. We didn't even risk going there. With that kind of energy, I wouldn't want to see what the place is like in person.
