The pool and sauna were relaxing, and the staff were a mixed bag: some were helpful, while others seemed confused. The restaurant was disappointing. We stayed in the Valdstein apartment inside the castle, at the end of a wing. Of the three apartments there, it’s the only one with windows facing three directions. The rooms have a special atmosphere, and the renovated bathroom was very comfortable. But one window was broken and two others had holes. The double windows kept the wind out, though the damage made things look shabby. It might be an easy fix to add a way to hold the inner windows open. Our room also went uncleaned all day, even after we reminded staff. That might be acceptable at a cheap hotel, but not at this price. Coffee pods shouldn’t cost extra when the accommodation is so expensive. Check-in is at the hotel reception to the right of the castle entrance. Staying in the castle feels luxurious, but it’s hard to hold on to that feeling when the surrounding service and upkeep don’t work well.

The Thurn-Taxis room was clean and nicely decorated, with floral arrangements and a fireplace that gave it a romantic, luxurious feel. It had a large bed, but even with the windows open it was uncomfortably hot, and there was no air conditioning. We stayed two nights, from July 21st to 23rd. Each time we walked through the hallway to the room, the air felt stale and musty, and the space didn’t seem ventilated. The bathroom was roomy, with a shower for two and a bathtub. When we reported a technical issue through the QR code system, it worked smoothly and the repairman came very quickly. We enjoyed the pool. Breakfast buffet dishes weren’t really to my taste, though that’s a personal preference. Thanks for the hospitality, and I hope this feedback helps improve the service.

The pool could have been a bit warmer, but we had a wonderful stay in the castle apartment and a great dinner at the hotel restaurant. We’d be very happy to come back with the family before Christmas, tour the castle again, and stay at the Maxmilián hotel. Thank you.
