The building is really charming, and the pool and gym are nice. Our kids had lots of indoor space to explore, and we did have a good stay overall. Still, several things made it feel short of 5 star. The pool is quite deep, so it's only suitable for kids who swim well. The approach to the hotel was steep and icy, which could be an issue with a stroller or mobility problems. There were also lots of dogs, including big ones, barking at each other even in the fancy dinner hall. That didn't feel safe for kids. Our room, 114, smelled strongly of burning wood after 9pm. I was told it came from the wood burning furnaces in reception, but I couldn't tell why the smoke was getting into our room or how safe it was to sleep with it. I reported it, but no solution or price reduction was offered. We were just told it was from the furnaces, so I had to keep opening the window at night. The heating was also out of control, set at 25 C, and we were told it couldn't be changed. We kept the window open for air, and I had to open and close it through the night to make the temperature bearable in winter. The food didn't always match the descriptions. The waiter was accommodating when I gently mentioned it, but wasn't very kind. For the kids' meal, cinnamon was listed but Kakao came instead, which makes quite a difference. Other meals had similar mismatches, so it's better to confirm what you're ordering. Breakfast was just okay, nothing special, and each day the coffee I ordered came out differently.

We had a big, comfortable room with amazing views, and the staff were super friendly and always willing to help. The food was great too, with plenty of choices. We also had fun on the golf course, which was well kept. It was a fantastic stay at the Esplanade Spa and Golf Resort, and we're looking forward to coming back.

I don't speak the language, so I asked the gentleman and lady at reception to call a taxi for me to the train station. I'd set aside only 200 CZK for the ride, and the lady even came outside to check with the driver that it would be enough. I really appreciated how friendly and helpful they both were.

My friend had a room in the other building with broken A/C. When we reported it, reception first said the hotel didn't have A/C and that we should open the window for fresh air. I told the staff member my room did have A/C, and then he said he'd get someone to fix it. I don't think the staff member knew the hotel well, so I couldn't give full marks for service. My own room was luxurious, almost like staying in a castle, and everything else was fine, though there was no kettle. The hotel provides boiled hot water and ice cubes on the ground floor of the main building. Breakfast was good, with a variety of items such as beef soup with noodles, omelette and good quality fruit. The dining room was elegant too.
