Hotel Augustus et Otto

We went to prague for my girlfriends birthday, and the woman at reception was lovely. The room was okay, apart from exposed wiring in the bathroom. We left our house keys at the hotel and tried to arrange for them to be sent back to the uk. Marco was the contact, and even though we said we’d pay postage, I don’t feel any effort has been made to send them. Now he just ignores my emails.

I can’t comment on the facilities, but the booking and communication experience was frustrating and unreliable. After reserving, I tried to contact the hotel on WhatsApp as their automated message suggested, but none of my messages got a reply. I couldn’t complete payment either. Both my Visa and Mastercard, from one of the world’s largest banks and with enough funds available, were repeatedly declined, though they’ve never caused me trouble before. Then, on the very day I was supposed to travel, I got an email cancelling my booking without any warning or explanation. The unanswered messages, failed payment system and sudden cancellation made for a very frustrating experience. I hope this helps other potential guests.

It’s in a nice, quiet part of town, with good transport links to the city centre. The hotel itself was very bad, though. The mattress toppers and spare sheets were stained, the shower leaked, and the mattresses were so thin it felt like sleeping on the slats. We complained about the mattress and got no note or response, so had to raise it again in the morning. Their fix was to put a spare topper underneath the mattress, something we’d already tried and said made no difference. Avoid.

The girls working there were sweet, but the room was horrendous. The TV was tiny and wouldn’t even work, and the bathroom looked bad and wasn’t clean. There was no AC, so don’t stay here in summer. We left after 2 hours and booked another hotel. I don’t know where to start, it felt much more like a motel. Such a bad hotel, such a scam.
