Hotel City Bell

The one thing that worked was the hot water and heating. Otherwise, this was a horrific stay, and I can't understand the hotel's high rating. It may have potential because it's near the center, but it needs serious renovation and better staff. I'm definitely not coming back, even if someone paid me. The place felt like a haunted house: old, poorly maintained, with broken furniture and even the pieces that weren't broken creaking. The carpets were filthy enough to send dust flying. I was honestly surprised we didn't find bugs. The bathroom was covered in grime, rust, and stains, and the toilet clearly hadn't been cleaned for a while. They did give us plenty of toilet paper, at least. There was no privacy at night because the curtains didn't cover the full windows, so anyone outside could see in when the lights were on. An older woman from housekeeping came into our room while we were asleep. Instead of closing the door and leaving, she asked about cleaning and taking out the trash. We were half asleep in our pajamas and said we didn't need anything, but she kept insisting on taking the trash before she eventually left. It felt intrusive and unprofessional. Breakfast was a disaster: very few choices, and what was there tasted bad. The vegetables tasted like soap, the omelette ran out and wasn't replaced, the bread was stale, and the boiled egg was hard enough to hit someone with. The coffee was undrinkable, though there is a cafe nearby. Given how much we paid, I expected at least basic comfort, and this place didn't provide it.

The reception staff were very friendly, and the family room was good for the price. Beds were fine, though I would've liked softer pillows. Breakfast offered enough choice, but the selection stayed the same each day. The Wi-Fi kept disappearing and changing SSID, so that definitely needs work. Still, I'd recommend it for the price and quality.

There are some really good restaurants nearby, and the old town isn't far away. The people at the hotel were lovely and helpful, and breakfast was fresh and tasty. A great place to stay.

The area has lots of restaurants, so our room got noisy at night with the windows open, until around 12:30 AM. We had no AC, so opening them was necessary. The room could use an update, though the interior has a historic feel that brought the first Czechoslovak republic to mind. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, and although the room was a little small, we didn't have trouble finding a seat.
