Don Giovanni Hotel Prague - Great Hotels of the World

The rooms were spacious and spotless, the executive lounge was nice, and breakfast was very good. The staff were lovely, and having a piano player each morning and evening created a great atmosphere. There was a lot to like, and the small issues weren't enough for me to take off a star. The pillows were awful, though, just one soft pillow per person, which made it hard to get comfortable. Our non-smoking room smelled strongly of smoke the whole stay. We couldn't tell if it was coming from a smoking area below us, even though we were on the 9th floor, or through a vent. It also seemed like someone had smoked in the room before us. The lift setup was annoying too, since we couldn't call one to go to upper floors and had to make trips from 9 to 0 to 12. These were minor compared with the overall experience, but worth mentioning.

The spa visit fell short of what I expected, even though the staff were polite and helpful. The steam room was out of order when we arrived after lunch, leaving only the jacuzzi and saunas. The herbal sauna door was broken, so it didn't work properly, and the Finnish sauna, advertised at 90°C, was only around 65°C. I reported it to spa reception, and a staff member kindly fixed it, but our wellness time was limited, so we couldn't properly enjoy the sauna while waiting for it to heat up. I also noticed an unpleasant smell from the shower drain despite the area looking clean. The wastewater system may need more frequent chemical cleaning or maintenance. I received the Don Giovanni Hotel Prague wellness voucher as a gift and had been looking forward to using it. No time restrictions were listed when I got the voucher, but when I booked, I was told it could only be used in the morning or early afternoon, not in the evening. That limited our flexibility and was disappointing. Based on this visit, I think other wellness centers in Prague currently offer a more consistent, higher-quality experience.

Andrej was especially kind and helpful, going out of his way to accommodate us and leaving a very positive impression. Service overall was very good, and the hotel is conveniently right beside a metro station, making it easy to get around. Some rooms look directly onto a cemetery, which could be uncomfortable for some people, so it's worth knowing when booking. We also found the pricing somewhat misleading because some extra costs weren't clearly explained. The wellness area, for example, isn't included in the room rate and costs an additional €20 per person for 120 minutes. That wasn't made clear beforehand and was disappointing. Good service and location, but check what's included to avoid surprise charges.

We arrived around midnight and the receptionist still welcomed us warmly, taking time to explain the room, access, and hotel facilities. They also gave us a bottle of Czech wine, a lovely surprise. The entrance hall is huge, with a striking statue, and it felt like a special place to arrive, even though the bar was closing and the pianist had finished for the night. The room was better than expected, with a large sofa and minibar that made it cozy after a long travel day. The bed and bedding were comfortable, everything worked, and we appreciated the two bottles of still water left each day. We also enjoyed dinner at the hotel restaurant one evening. The hotel is outside the center, but with the metro right next door, the Old Town and main sights are quick and easy to reach. The only downsides were the slow elevators and the rather small spa, which was fine but nothing special. We had a pleasant stay and found it good value, so we'd happily recommend it.
