Residence Select

The staff were pleasant, and the rooms were clean with comfortable beds. Breakfast was an okay buffet. It’s a clean, basic hotel, about a ten-minute walk into the new town and an hour’s walk to the castle.

The staff are polite, the breakfast is good, and the location works well. It’s worth what you pay if you’re only staying a day or two and mainly need somewhere to sleep. They really should improve the pillows, though. I think they’re the worst I’ve ever slept on.

The room condition was alarming from the start: broken toilet seat, damaged shower, dirt, and wet patches across the ceiling. I told staff as soon as I noticed, but they seemed unconcerned. It was very hard to communicate, as they either didn’t understand English or didn’t want to, and no one tried to help fix anything. On departure day, while I was showering, the shower holder fell and deeply cut my toe. I was in pain and bleeding heavily. My cousin went to reception for first aid, but none was available, and the receptionist again didn’t understand or offer assistance. Because of the injury and the hotel’s lack of care, I had to cut my holiday short and couldn’t keep exploring. We had booked two nights at Hotel Residence Select in Prague, but the stay was terrible. The place was dirty, unsafe, and poorly maintained, with very unhelpful staff. I wouldn’t recommend it, and don’t think it meets acceptable standards.

We left at 9pm after telling reception we were going. We found a much better hotel down the street for roughly the same price. Please take this as a warning: Residence Select is filthy and, in my view, not fit for people to stay in. The first sign was the basement toilet, where my daughter found no toilet paper and an unbearable smell. The receptionist was rude and couldn’t be bothered that we’d arrived early. We didn’t get our room keys until around 4pm. The rooms smelled awful, like collapsed sewers, and were filthy. In the first room, the bathroom was dirty and dusty, the kitchenette dishes hadn’t been washed, the pans were greasy, and the cups and spoons had fresh stains. We also couldn’t turn on the TV. When I complained, the receptionist gave me air freshener, which did nothing. After about half an hour, she called the manager and moved us to a third-floor room. That room was worse. The mattress had urine and feces stains on it, the smell was just as bad, and the door lock didn’t work properly. I later saw an August 2025 TripAdvisor comment describing similar filthy rooms and the same kind of stains on mattresses. Enough was enough. I wouldn’t let homeless people stay in these rooms. They felt like a doss house, and they weren’t fit for human habitation.
