Hotel U Zlatého Stromu Prague by BHG

The location is the only reason I can give this place a point. I originally rated it 3, but changed it back to 1 after checkout. They added a tip to my bill without explanation. I asked them to remove it, and they charged me again with just the mandatory tax, but never canceled or refunded the incorrect bill. I ended up disputing the charge with my credit card company. They may try to add a tip at checkout, so ask the receptionist to remove it if you don't want to pay it. I found the practice sneaky, and the management shady. I can't see myself staying here again. I was traveling alone and booked my room in June for a November stay. On the first night they put me in a smaller room in an unfinished part of the hotel, in an adjacent building under construction. The heater didn't work. I called, and the receptionist confirmed that, but nobody had told me before handing over the room. After I complained, the manager came to fix it and mocked me, saying, “toughen up.” Even with the heat set to the highest setting, the room stayed cold overnight. I left a bad review on Expedia about check-in. Around 8 the next morning, the receptionist called to move me to a different room, right beside her desk in the main building. It was the larger room I'd paid for. If you're traveling alone, watch out: they may try to put you in a tiny room despite your booking. The room did come with a robe, slippers, bath gel, shampoo and lotion. But there was no shower curtain, so the bathroom gets wet, and getting into the shower means climbing over the tub's high sides.

The hotel's location is the one thing it has going for it, and that's what earned the single star. The rooms are cramped and uncomfortable, and the building feels very old and poorly cared for. Noise carries constantly from outside and between rooms, with no soundproofing. There isn't an elevator, and no one offered to help with luggage, even to the upper floors. For the condition and service, it costs far too much. The stay was a letdown and not worth the price.

We loved it so much that we canceled our Salzburg trip and stayed longer in Prague. Hotel U felt cozy and special, the location was perfect, and the staff were wonderful. We came for our 18th wedding anniversary and had an amazing time. Huge thanks to LUKAS and LADA for making the visit extra special. We can't wait to return. Lots of love to you all! 💟💖😘✨💫🫶🏼

The rooms are large, but old, and getting to them is awkward. There's no elevator. The bigger problem is how little sound the windows keep out: they're single-glazed, so you hear street music, and drunk people shouting, singing and talking. It was impossible for me to sleep. Don't stay here if you need a proper rest after walking around the city. This was the worst hotel I've ever been to. DO NOT GO!
