The location made it easy to see the old city on foot, and staff were keen to help. Late check-in was fine too, and there’s a small kitchenette on each floor plus a nice little hidden garden. The rooms were cozy enough, with the basics and thick walls, though nothing extra. Breakfast was included at a fair price, but it was very basic: ham, cheese, bread, cereal, and yogurt. On some mysterious schedule they also had bacon and eggs, but that happened only once during our stay, so I wouldn’t count on it. The room doors are paper thin, though, and you can hear everything people are doing in their rooms as you pass.

The shower seemed to be missing a door, so water spread across the bathroom floor because the opening couldn't be covered properly. There was shower gel to use and towels were included. Breakfast was served downstairs from 8-10, as shown in the pictures. A large group made the small breakfast area crowded, so I tried twice at different times, close to 10, and food was still available. On the last day I went when breakfast opened, and there was plenty to eat. The rooms were clean and tidy, and looked recently renovated. Before arrival, you get codes for the main entrance and your room, which is handy if you're late since there's no waiting around. My room had a desk, TV, and lots of local information, including a map. There are vending machines for snacks, though I didn't use them. I walked to the old town every day, about 30 minutes. Several restaurants and shops nearby looked quite popular. This is probably one of the better three star hotels I've stayed in.

For a short stay on a budget, this is a very good base and offers impressive value. The tram nearby makes getting around easy, and there are some good places to eat around the area. The rooms are a reasonable size, clean, and functional, with the amenities you need but nothing fancy. My main concern was the security setup: using a pin code for both the front entrance and the room door felt less secure than other methods. We had no problems, but it's something to keep in mind.

I was there for about a week in late June/early July, and I'm sure I'll return to marianeum. The value for money is about as good as you can find. It's walkable from the train station, close to several tram lines, and near plenty of pubs and restaurants. The rooms are comfortable and quiet, though there's no air conditioning. The amenities were good, including a satisfying breakfast, a freezer, and a vending machine for snacks. Reception and cleaning staff were both helpful.
