Penzion U Madony

The restaurant used to be one of our favorites in the region, and you once had to reserve to get a table. Now it’s nearly always empty, which is a shame. In my view, Madonna's quality has been going downhill over the past months or years. The food is mostly prepared well, but it doesn’t taste as good or seem as good quality as it used to. Our last visit really will be our last.

The Burger Guacamole had barely any guacamole in it, just a tiny spot. At this price, it feels ridiculous when they skimp like that. The staff can act weird sometimes, though other times everything’s fine and the food tastes good. A few years ago they served what they called “fresh mint tea,” but it was only a mint-flavored tea bag. Some freshness.

The pizza was the biggest problem. There’s a stone oven, but the “chef” making it never washed his hands and kept touching his cellphone and the oven. The service was mediocre at best, and the food was unpleasantly garlicky and not good. I wouldn’t recommend the place.

I’ve had lunch here several times, but the tartar on my last visit wasn’t to my taste. Maybe it was just a bad cut. The staff could be more helpful by speaking English and a bit friendlier.
