The rooms look modern like the photos, and they're spacious and bright, with underfloor heating. But they don't block sound well, and there isn't a proper place to dry shoes, so waterproof footwear is essential. Small things in our room were broken or missing: a curtain, a kitchen cupboard handle with a screw sticking out, a bulb in the floor lamp, and a lid on the trash can. There were mold-like marks on the bedroom ceiling. The latex mattresses were high quality, but on the hard slats they seemed to retain a person's shape for hours. Cleaning also seemed limited to visible areas at first. Dust and dirt had built up behind furniture and in the sofa folds, but staff vacuumed those spots after I mentioned them. Getting to Zlata Vyhlidka in Rochlitz an der Iser takes some effort. It's in the little village of Studenov, up a 1.7 km forest track, with the final 200 m especially tough. From the parking area, which cost 85 DKK per day, the other way is along the ski slope, with about three or four steep stretches. In slushy snow you can sink up to your knees. Luggage is carried free on arrival and departure, and they may also take individual guests who can't get up the hill, or use the owner's snowcat if it's available. Thanks for that. Once you're at the top, the scenery is lovely, but you mostly just want a shower and to put your feet up. The staff were always polite and dealt with complaints. The two younger employees spoke English, while the somewhat older women used Czech or gestures. At check-in, we were told our room number and given the dining room and bar hours. For other information, you have to ask around. Some facilities have seen better days: the dartboard and darts in the unheated fitness room were broken, and both ladder sets were only half-heartedly attached to the wall. The sauna is reached through the fitness room and an unheated anteroom with cold to lukewarm showers and seats. It gets to 80°C, which can relax tense muscles, though whether the temperature change is good for your health is debatable. Breakfast and dinner are nothing special, and elsewhere I wouldn't pay extra for them, but here I'd recommend them. Breakfast is self-serve; dinner and drinks are served. The dining room has five tables, a small bar with Pilsner Urquell as the only beer, stronger drinks such as Becherovka, a DeLonghi coffee machine, a small children's play area, and a TV. Drinks cost extra. Our room had no Wi-Fi, and phone service was mostly EDGE, with 4G near a cell tower or the ski slope. Room service is only available if requested, otherwise it happens after checkout. The sink smelled as though the siphon was missing, so we could only sleep with the window open. If you don't bring a packed lunch each day, the trip home is something to look forward to. The TV only picked up Czech channels over terrestrial reception. If you cut the holiday short, there's no refund for unused accommodation, breakfast, or dinner. You can only settle costs already incurred. You also can't cancel without losing money, and we got no invoices or similar paperwork for services provided or not provided. For payments at places at the bottom of the slopes, it's best to take enough Czech crowns out of an ATM. Staff use different exchange rates depending on their mood, around 20-25 per total, and often don't give change when you pay in euros. This might suit athletes or people trying to lose weight. For me and my family, it was our first and last stay.

The owner was helpful, the view is lovely, and there's a great little ski slope. We were completely satisfied. It's a real treat for a visit with kids, I recommend it.
