Pension Villa Stella

The staff were friendly. When the language barrier got in the way, they helped with gestures and some good-natured teasing. Breakfast was simple but fresh, and the location was okay, though parking is a street away rather than right at the hotel. At the hotel, the exchange rate was worse than a bank's. The room had enough space in theory, but the layout was awkward, with little closet room and wardrobe doors that were hard to open because their keys were missing. The room itself was below standard, with hair on the mattress and mold.

Things were fine apart from breakfast. There wasn't much choice of decent hot food, and the tasty salads were put out sparingly, almost as if it was first come, first served.

We were happy with the studio and found it good value for money. Traveling with our 11-month-old, we had enough room for a cot and a really big balcony. Breakfast was average in a good way, and the receptionist was very nice and helpful. One logistical wrinkle with a small child is that the car park is on the opposite side of the hotel from the entrance. You can drive up to the entrance for a limited time, though.

There are no dinner options at the guesthouse, and breakfast gets very repetitive. The place itself is quite decent, but for food nearby, the closest option is Hotel Alba, which I unfortunately can't recommend. I felt like an intruder there and wouldn't want others to feel that way. I ordered a chicken schnitzel for my child; it came back raw in the middle. After I complained, they brought half of that same schnitzel grilled on gas. I complained again, and they made a new one, which the waiter brought over as if he were about to throw it in my face. The bill charged us for two schnitzels, one raw and one good. Stella is okay, but under no circumstances go to Alba.
