Chalupa Pod Nebem

The summer visit gave us the return trip we’d already talked about after our January weekend. The children filled up on blueberries, and we picked plenty of mushrooms, especially oak mushrooms, which we dried there and brought home. We even had soup and mushrooms with eggs. Such a fairy-tale setting, with memories to match. The owner and her husband were lovely and showed us where to look for mushrooms and blueberries. We’re already trying to choose a date to come back again. Our January arrival had no snow, but by morning around 30 cm had fallen, and the kids were in paradise. We didn’t regret deciding to return during the summer holidays.

If you’re after total quiet, this is the spot. Pod Nebem sits at the top of Klubovec hill, 838m above sea level, with views toward White Cross and the border crossing with Slovakia. It’s lovely to watch the sunrise over dew-covered grass. There are lots of mushrooms nearby, and the owners are pleasant. There’s internet too. One cottage sleeps up to 10 and can be reached by car, though the final climb is steep. The second cottage has a sauna and sleeps 4. The name Pod Nebem gives you a pretty good idea of its setting. I recommend it.

You can bring a dog, and the surrounding forest is easy to explore, without any especially big hills. It’s good for walks and for picking blueberries and mushrooms. The cottage itself is clean, roomy and well equipped, and the owners are very pleasant. The view is amazing too. After leaving the asphalt road, the driveway gets a bit rough, with larger stones. The owners have improved the tricky stretch, though, so you should be fine unless your car has very low clearance.

The driveway gets the adrenaline going a little, but our station wagon handled it fine. Beautiful place, and the hosts live next door and are great. We’ll be back 🙂
